One thing to note for Vista/Win7 users is that the game needs to be run as administrator regardless of if your current windows login account has admin credentials by default.  I've found that I get kicked all the damn time without it but when its run as admin then I dont.  In fact I havent been PB kicked for over a year now since I began doing that.  Not sure if this has already been stated, ill be honest, I didn't read most of these above posts.

Running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP also helps.

THE REAL ISSUE IS PNKBSTR.B.EXE

Since evenbalance updates monthly they change the code.  The last update fucked it all up for a lot of ppl.

So now your cpu/pc cannot understand the pnkbsterb.exe instructions and wont open it.

Go to your pb folder and try clicking on the pnkbstrb.exe file, it opens a dos prompt then closes instantly, then hit ctrl alt del and you can see it failed to start.

Some ppl lucked out the rest of us got fucked.

Since everyone's pc is different you end up with some ppl not able to run it without errors and some ppl run it 24/7 and never have an error and other ppl get the occasional error.

Yeah, that's all I do. The thing that gets me is the randomness of this handshaking thing. Sometimes it'll happen, and then nothing for a while. I've tried running the PBSETUP thing, yada yada yada, and it has never worked for me (although I've never tried InLoss' full throttle approach). Just going to another server, letting the map load, playing for a second or two, leaving and then returning to the server you want always works for me.

What do I sound Like D now :0)

Go to the link......After the 6th line you see a link to a player file that is highlighted in yellow.
If you download from this file you would have gotten the file you posted and that was an incorrect download.
I was just clarifying that and hoped you did not due this......that's all.

I was pointing out that you needed to click on the yellow highlighted  PBSETUP on the first line.

I did all that, but when i run the punkbuster setup and add battlefield 2 and then say check for updates, i get this error:

Unhandled error: ERROR: The update attempt failed because the file
"http://webfile2.evenbalance.com/downloads/bf2/pbsecsv.htm" is missing on the update servers.
Please try again later.

I'm going to try again later, but it's my experience that they never work later either...  :<<

Can anyone help?

Could it be your clicking for PLAYER  :<<..........

CLICK ON PBSETUP  above that at   NOTICE

Did you remove the PB folder from EA game file on c drive?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTICE: PunkBuster is designed to auto-update itself during gameplay. PBSetup is the easiest method of manually updating PunkBuster for most users (players and admins).

Don't reload the game.......  InLoSS's post was great, but it's a bit too technical for me.  This is what I do before I play the game and it works fine for me.

Got to my computer, program files, ea games, Battlefield 2.  Find and delete the PB folder.  Go here:
http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-bf2.php and download the PB update for windows.  It works.

Jesus I'm pissed. I just started getting the MD5 or whatever a few nights ago. Tonight I just got the friggin handshake bull. I've reloaded the game 3 times and it still won't let me play. I don't feel like giving this a shot yet, but I guess I'm going to have to soon.
